The Massachusetts Mysteries
About
The Massachusetts Mysteries is a Cambridge-based small business that designs and runs puzzle adventures in the Greater Boston area. For each adventure, you and your team will need to use the landmarks around you (and your brains!) to solve the mystery.
For updates on upcoming events, please follow our Humanitix organizer profile or sign up on the mailing list!

How It Works
Teams will start with a set of puzzles. The answer to the very first puzzle will be a location, which players will then navigate to.
Once the team arrives at the location, they’ll need to use something in their surroundings in order to successfully complete the second puzzle.
The solution to the second puzzle will lead to the next stop on the puzzle hunt.
The game continues until the players reach the last location and reach the final solution!
The Big Dig Treasure Hunt
📍 Downtown Boston
🧩 2 / 5 difficulty
🕒 1 - 2 hours
👟 ~1.5 miles on easy terrain, no stairs
The Big Dig, one of the USA’s most ambitious public works projects, transformed an elevated highway into a tunnel, burying it deep beneath downtown Boston. Construction lasted from 1991 to 2007, finally culminating in a new central highway – an artery that runs directly through the heart of Boston.
However, recent news suggests that it wasn’t just the I-93 that was buried. A mysterious advertisement in the classified section of last week’s paper claims that untold treasure lies hidden beneath downtown Boston.
After sending a letter to the mysterious author, you received a packet containing a series of puzzles. You and your fellow investigators also have a map of where construction occurred during the Big Dig. Armed with this knowledge, you plan to find the prize, quit your jobs, and abscond into early retirement on a tropical island.
Best of luck!
